Steel name: SAE 1050
Diagram No.: 2872
Type of diagram: TTE
SAE designation: 1050
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.46% C, 0.75% Mn, 0.02% P, 0.034% S,
0.03% Ni, 0.12% Cr.
Note: Embrittlement diagram. Temper embrittlement. Treatment: Specimens hardened
by heating to 830
oC (1525
oF) for 30 min and brine quenching. Prior to isothermal
embrittlement treatment, all specimens were tempered by induction heating to 650
oC
(1200
oF) for 5 s. Curves are based on transition temperature determined by 50% fibrous
fracture. Figures beside points represent the increase in transition temperatures in
degrees Fahreinheit from the unembrittled condition.
