Steel name: 3.25% Si Steel
Diagram No.: 2792
Type of diagram: TTT
Chemical composition in weight %: 0.051% C, 0.21% Mn, 3.44% Si, 0.010% P, 0.011% S.
Note: Precipitation diagram. Silicon steel. Austenitizing temperature: 1095
oC (2000
oF).
Treatment: Before transformation, specimens were heated to 1095
oC (2000
oF) at which
temperature the 0.05% C steel contained approximate 20% and the 0.033% C steel
approximate 7% austenite. Transformation of this austenite was investigated at
temperatures from 815 to 540
oC (1500 to 1000
oF). Specimens were plated with nickel,
then heated for 15 min at 1045
oC (2000
oF) in a continuously evacuated silica tube. At
the end of this period the vacuum was broken and the specimens quickly transfered to
a lead bath at the desired transformation temperature. See the diagram
No. 2793.
